Starke Lake and four highways
Hydroseeding in Ocoee, FL
A city that grew along SR 50, the Turnpike, SR 408 and SR 429, with plenty of pads, ponds and road edges to stabilize.
- No-charge walk-through of the lot before we quote
- Seed matched to Florida warm-season grasses, not northern blends
- Seed, mulch, prep and erosion items listed on separate quote lines
Covering Ground Along Ocoee's Road Corridors
Hydroseeding in Ocoee follows the roads. The city started as a camp on the north side of Starke Lake in the 1850s, but highways drove its 20th-century growth: SR 50 in 1959, Florida's Turnpike in 1964, the SR 408 extension in 1990 and SR 429 in 2000. Every new interchange brought commercial pads, apartment sites and subdivisions, and every one of them needed bare soil stabilized.
Commercial and construction seeding
On commercial jobs the goal is usually fast cover: a pad waiting for a building, a phase line in a subdivision, or a slope next to a parking lot. Hydroseed with hydromulch covers big areas quickly and gives inspectors visible stabilization. We work around your schedule so seeding happens right after final grade, not weeks later.
Silt fence and inlet protection
Sites near busy roads send sediment straight into curb inlets. We install silt fence along the low edges, protect inlets and check them after heavy storms. When the grass is established and the site is stable, we pull the fence so it does not become a maintenance problem.
Ponds and water
About 6 percent of Ocoee's area is water, including Starke Lake near downtown. Retention ponds in newer neighborhoods carry most of the runoff. Their banks take the most wear and need either erosion control blankets or a heavy mulch rate to hold through the first wet season.
Nursery roots, sandy soils
Ocoee had the first commercial citrus nursery in the United States, started by Captain Bluford Sims, and early settlers farmed fields near Lake Apopka. Much of that land is now housing on sandy soil. For new lawns we check soil depth, add topsoil where needed and fine grade before spraying.

Ocoee Growth and Water Facts
- Highway growth. SR 50 (1959), the Turnpike (1964), the SR 408 extension (1990) and SR 429 (2000) each opened Ocoee to more development.
- Starke Lake. The town began as a camp on the north side of Starke Lake, and the lake still carries the name of Dr. J.D. Starke, who started that camp.
- Water share. Of the city's 15.7 square miles, about 0.97 square miles, or 6.12 percent, is water.
- Citrus nursery. Captain Bluford Sims ran the first commercial citrus nursery in the United States in Ocoee.

Ocoee Questions
Can you seed a commercial pad that will sit empty for months?
Yes. Hydroseed and mulch on a waiting pad keeps dust and sediment down and satisfies most stabilization requirements until building starts.
Do you check silt fence after storms?
We can set up inspections and repairs after heavy rain, which is when fence fails and inlets clog.
How do you seed a slope beside a parking lot or road?
We spray from the pavement, use tackifier so the mulch holds, and blanket the steeper sections.
When should the silt fence come out?
Once grass has filled in and the soil is stable. Removing it too early lets sediment move, and leaving it too long makes it a mowing hazard.
