Seeding the Slopes Down to Lake Dora
Hydroseeding in Mount Dora means paying attention to the drop. The town sits on a plateau about 184 feet above sea level, slightly more than 100 feet above Lakes Dora, Gertrude and Beauclair. That is where the "Mount" comes from, and it is why yards near the lakes slope more than most in Central Florida. Bare soil on those slopes sends sand downhill fast.
Slopes to the lakes
For lakeward slopes we use a heavier hydromulch, add tackifier and roll out erosion control blankets on the steepest parts. A wattle or silt fence along the bottom keeps sediment out of the lake. Water from Lake Apopka flows through Beauclair and Dora on its way north, so these lakes already carry a lot.
Historic yards
Mount Dora was founded in the 1880s, and the downtown historic district has been on the National Register since 2009. Older homes come with mature trees, tight lots and old walls. We grade lightly around big roots, fix low spots with topsoil, and keep slurry off brick and stucco.
Parks and lakefront
The city has lakeside parks such as Grantham Point Park on Lake Dora, home to the only inland freshwater lighthouse in Florida, and the Lake County Water Authority keeps several preserves nearby. That public attention to the lakes is a good reason to keep construction sediment out of them.
Growth to the east
In 2013 the city began planning the Wolf Branch Innovation District as the Wekiva Parkway expanded and State Road 453 opened into Mount Dora. New roads and business parks bring commercial grading, retention ponds and road shoulders that need hydroseed and sediment control.

Mount Dora Questions
Our yard drops toward Lake Dora. Will hydroseed stay put?
On gentle grades, yes, with tackifier. On steeper sections we add erosion control blankets and a wattle at the bottom.
Can you renovate a lawn around old oaks without hurting the roots?
Yes. We keep grading light near trunks and add a thin layer of topsoil instead of cutting into the root zone.
Do you do commercial seeding near the Wolf Branch area?
Yes. We seed pads, pond banks and road shoulders and set silt fence and inlet protection as needed.
Why is erosion worse on my lot than at my friend's in Orlando?
Mount Dora's lakeside slopes are steeper than most Central Florida yards, so water moves faster across bare soil.
